TOLERANCE

It is to greet different opinions and behaviors with patience, to overlook and forgive the faults and deficiencies which are not so important. Not to make difficulties against people who are not from us and who are not like us, not to interfere and put pressure upon them and neglecting some slight differences and deficiencies. As a concept of ethics it is an attitude that should be considered important both in the levels of individual and society.

It is a fact that there are differences of belief and culture among people and societies. It is not possible to deny them and to behave as if they do not exist. The necessity for communicating and forming relations with others is present all time. At least it is obvious that there is a need for this to cause people to reach religion and for the duty of to order with good and to cause to avoid badness, which is a responsibility for each Muslim. This requires tolerance. It is necessary to behave people broadmindedly while considering that people may be guided in to the true faith all time-by keeping that possibility in mind- .Being open to communication and to be able to use the facility of dialogue is largely possible with tolerance.

Sunna of The Apostle of Allah includes rich examples that show us the way to follow in this matter. He preferred to be tolerant and did not behave hard in any case that may be useful to people. For instance while he was receiving a Christian delegation from Nacran, in his reception that took place in an afternoon, when the visitors asked to worship according to Christian tradition, he went out for a while and left the small mosque completely to them. Here beyond personal tolerance there is a institutional approach in the form of giving rights to Christians in their original worship in respect of law. By this way the Islamic understanding and attitude of administration was also presented.

Today The Religion of Allah is insistently tried to be overshadowed with an unattractive image that has no basis by some ignorant or bad intended circles. Unfortunately Islam is perceived by this or that way hard, lack of tolerance and supporter of violence in some circles. Especially in such environment we should adopt the smiling face of The Apostle of Allah, his kindness, his warm nature and tolerance that gave tranquility and peace, as our character. His habit of not to offend anyone, his attention towards people and approach without prejudice, his being close and sincere to second person without making any distinction and his taking the well-being of people as sole aim , we should enliven them again in our personalities since we need those qualities while explaining Islam to modern world in respect of psychology and strategy. Essentially the real face of Islam and the model of The Apostle of Allah for us are like that.
