The Silence of Our Prophet:
Silence was dominating in Our Prophet's behaviors. He didn't speak when it was not necessary. He used to turn a way from the people who do not speak of good or who do not follow modesty and ethics in their speech.
When the people of later generation asked to Companions of The Prophet that: “Did you have chat with The Apostle of Allah”, they said: “Yes, but he used to speak very little”
Our Prophet used to speak little but well and he didn't tell unnecessary things.
Ebu Malik communicated by his father about the speaking and silence of Our Prophet:
“When we were children, we used to be in the meetings of Our Prophet-may Allah commend and salute him- I haven't seen anybody who speaks less than him. When some of His Companions prolonged their speech he used to smile”
The stepson of Our Prophet, Hind communicates about the silence of The Apostle of Allah:
“His silence was of four kinds:
Sometimes he used to be quiet to endure and be patient against the words told to him. To avoid becoming aggressive.
And sometimes he used to be silent when he saw a behavior of others that. He liked as an expression of appreciate and reflection.”
Our Prophet who considered silence as a worship which is easy and mild for body, warned the people who spoke with presupposition without knowing the details of a subject.”
Again Our Prophet-peace be upon him- stated that being silent is the most virtuous worship after jihad-holy war-, fasting and giving alms; he advised that “To be quiet or to speak of good when one starts to speak”
As an answer to the question of Muaz b. Cebel who said that: “Are we responsible for the things that we tell” Our Prophet declared as follows:
“It is nothing other than their tongue that will lead people to Hell on their face. Who has faith in Allah and in the day of the Last judgment either should speak of good or be silent. Speak of good so that you will profit, do not speak evil to attain salvation.”
On each occasion Our Prophet informed us about speaking properly and not to say useless words. Sometimes he called our attention to this subject upon the question of His Companions.
Ubade b. Samit said:
Someday Our Prophet went on a journey getting on his saddle beast together with His Companions. None of them passed in front of him and they always walked on his right or left. Muaz b. Cebel asked:
“O The Apostle of Allah! I hope that Allah make our end before yours. I hope that Allah does not give us such a day. But if something happens to you which pious deeds do you advice us? Our Prophet said:
“Go on holy war for The Sake of Allah” Muaz said:
“May my parents to be sacrificed for you” Our Master said:
“Holy war for the sake of Allah is such a good thing. But for today's people there is something more important. Muaz asked:
“O The Apostle of Allah. Please explain it us? What is this important point?” Hadrat Prophet declared by pointing out his tongue:
“Not to say anything other than good with this”
