MORAL QUALITY
Moral
qualities, “Huluk” which can be described as
habit, nature, character; is the most important aim of the
creation, the real dimension of compulsory nature and the
disposal of human will on the truth of “ creation”-halk-
directed towards divine ethics. For someone who uses this
disposal and dress his nature with good morals, all good
deeds become easier.
The words “halk”-creation,
nature- and “huluk”- moral qualities come from
the same root and there are no basic differences between
them. But while “halk”-creation- has a meaning
which is seen outside and perceived with outer senses, connected
with shape, form and statue; “huluk”-moral qualities-
is an essence, meaning and content which is understood with
heart, felt with interior senses and represented with soul
Man which is an unknown
secret in respect of his outer face displays his real identity
only with habit, character and nature. Although people may
seem different, their habits and character someday hand
them over. This word of the poet of Pre- Islam is so expressive:
“If someone has a secret habit, let him think that
his habit will remain hidden. Sooner or later this character
appears and becomes known.”
In other words, in the
places where shape and features deceive people, habit corrects
all mistakes and becomes an interpreter to the secrets in
the essence of the man. Although when we talk about “huluk”,
it reminds good morals, there are people who mention a division
of “good morals” and “bad morals”
in respect of both goodness and badness may become habitual
on the basis of natural capability and being stable, still
the sense which we want to express with the word “huluk”
here is “ good morals”
The most reliable criteria
of Sufism are “huluk” good habit. Those who
are a few steps ahead of others in good morals mean ahead
in Sufism. Although the extraordinary states, dazzling degrees
and superhuman disposals which are accepted in respect of
being the fruits and flowers of the soil of good habit,
unless they are together with good morals they have no value
and it’s not worth to consider them.
Essentially, didn’t
Our Prophet answer the question of “Which believer
is more virtuous in respect to faith” “The
one whose habit is more beautiful”
It is natural because
while there are so many favors and endowments over him,
as a consolation, assurance and praise for His most distinguished
born servant , by saying “You are on the
highest of morals of which comprehending is impossible and
very difficult to understand in respect of deriving its
dimensions from the Noble Quran and having a divine axis
” (1) Allah
The Most High stresses the character , high morals and spiritual
virtues of him , in other words his moral qualities-huluk-
which is considered the aim of the creation, goal and the
its real meaning. With the law-morals which has the dimensions
derived from Quran that started with the first man and come
with development until the Age of Light.
The answer of Hadrat
Aisha to the question of Said b Hisham about the moral qualities
of Prophet , by saying “Don’t you read the Noble
Quran” and when he said: ”Yes we do” and
her saying “ His morals were the Noble Quran”,
confirms that, the reality which we define as “huluk”-morals-
has the meaning of the practice of religion deeply and the
representing of the Noble Quran without defect.
Besides, in the verse
revealed on this subject, it is especially reminded with
the words of the verse that this morals is divine, originated
from Quran and above comprehension. And beyond considering
its manifestation and appearance as peculiar to the honored
person whom is addressed with the nunnation ?of understanding
in the word of “huluk” it is indicated that
his morals which has a depth comes from Quran and from divine
openness is not compared to any of the systems of ethics
and this high morals is out of comprehension.... this shows
that he is most beautiful Prophet of morals who has no similar
among all people came to this world.
Yes, he was honored
with a nature, character and capabilities which can attain
all kinds of greatness and candidate to all kinds of virtue,
and open to all kinds of piety with his body, spirit, outside
and inside, nature and morals. Then he walked to the highest
maturity -“a’la-i illiyin-i kemalat” -by
appraising these gift with the best way, he was not contended
only with walking he helped to the pure souls who were his
contemporaries and who were awakened with the reality of
“Chapter Ahzab,32/21 ” and lift them to the
peaks which are above others that resulted from their obedience.
-------------------------------
(1) Chapter Kalem, 68/4.
On his tongue the brilliant
words like:
I. “The believers whose faith is the most mature is
the ones who have the best morals”
II. “A person can make an advancement with good morals
that he can not succeed with worship and obedience”
III. The first thing that will be put on the balance (On
the Day of Judgment) is the good morals. In his hands the
secret formula of being perfect man, the people who follow
him always walk around in the valleys that the angels walk
around.
He summarized the sign of good morals as not to give
pain to anybody whether with words or with actions, not
to see the ones who did a harm to oneself or to forget even
it is seen, to return badness with goodness that the Person
who was honored with its truth is the most vivid and impressive
example of this. He was not offended to anybody even to
the person who stood next to him and said: “Be fair”
and to the one who gave him pain by pulling his robe, to
the ones who scattered dust over his head and insulted him
even to ones who slandered to his exalted wife. Let alone
being offended when they became ill he went to visit them
and when they die he followed the funeral. He did so because
the good moral is the color of his nature and a dimension
of his existence.
There are many people
who seem as good natured, kind and humanist that in their
life good morals and mildness is like a plasticized lie
and a vulnerable crystal. A bit of anger, violence a slight
irritation is enough to reveal their real faces and true
thoughts.
A heart which is not
frozen against good morals possibly doesn’t change
its attitude even if it would be thrown into gehenna/hell.
He would live on the path of mildness and peace, would chat
with monsters of gehenna and meet those things he experinced
with an open heart.
A heart which is open
to good moral qualities resembles to wide space that it
can find a place to bury its anger and violence even if
it was filled with the troubles of world. Concerning the
people whose character are bad and heart is tight, they
are Cains more stupid than the crow that in all earth they
can not find a grave to bury their bad feelings, rage and
hatred.
We say: “The maturity
of man is with good morals; the order of the world is with
good morals.”
