GOOD OPINION

In Arabic “husn-u zan” means to have good opinion about others.

To be suspicious about people without evidence, to consider the servants of Allah The Most High as bad is not a good attitude. Distrust also leads the person to conceit that this is a very bad habit.

In the Noble Quran it is declared:

“O ye who believe! avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: and spy not on each other nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay ye would abhor it...but fear Allah: for Allah is Oft-Returning Most Merciful.”

Our dear Prophet-pecae be upon him- said: “Be cautious about suspicion. Because suspicion is the most lie of the words.”

They brought a man to Ibn-i Mes’ud-one of the Companions of Our Prophet-. The beard of the man was wet. They said:
-Look at him. Wine is dropping from his beard. Thereupon Ibn-i Mes’ud said:
-How do you know that? It may be water. Hadrat Prophet forbade the “tecessus” which is to search the faults of people.

While having good opinion about someone else is known as “husn-u zan”, having distrust against others is “su-i zan”.

As it is seen on the example above, while it is possible to have a bad opinion about a person with wet beard as “wine is dropping from his beard”, also one can say “it may be water”. To choose the bad one from them is both a sin and evil in ethics, preferring the positive thinking is a merit in religion and a good behavior.

Some proverbs about this subject: “Having good opinion is nearness to Allah, having distrust is a crime.” And, “Consider all people pass by as -hizir-a legendary person who is known as immortal- and consider every night as Kadir-when the Noble Quran revealed-.

One should keep in mind that having good opinion is not an obstacle and shouldn’t be for being a prudent and smart person known as sagacity -feraset- and

As Hadrat Prophet-peace be upon him- said: “A believer isn’t beaten for two times by the same snake’s burrow -he doesn’t err in the same subject for two times.-”

“Be cautious about the sagacity of a believer. Because he looks with the Light of Allah”

A believer is a prudent, wise and sharp person. He distinguishes his gain from loss and the useful things from harmful ones. Essentially isn’t his choice about faith and not to be in the darkness of disbelief sharpness.

Having good opinion about others and being full with kind feelings of a person, doesn’t mean to err in all cases and to bear and tolerate the deception of others with harmful deeds for him.

Positive way of thinking about people helps to the peace of society as it helps to the peace of the individual.

Opposite of it, “su-i zan”- nourishing bad feelings and negative opinion about people, darkens both the inside and outside of the person and it makes life unbearable. Furthermore it is harmful for the next world.
