It is to give time and opportunity to others for doing something.
Delay acquires characteristics according to conditions of the person or society that it is given. It is possible that a time is given to bad people for increasing their badness and by that reason the increase of the punishment; also a delay may be given as an opportunity to perform a responsibility or undertaking.
In the Noble Quran it is declared:
“As for them they are but plotting a scheme
And I am planning a scheme
Therefore grant a delay to the unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for a while).” (1)
“It Allah were to punish men for their wrongdoing He would not leave on the (earth) a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated term: when their term expires they would not be able to delay (the punishment) for a single hour just as they would not be able to anticipate it (for a single hour).” (2)
In those sacred verses it is mentioned that Allah gives an extension to infidels and cruel ones up to a certain time and they will be punished when the day will come. Certainly there are great divine reasons for this.
Also we would like to mention under this topic that, giving time of Muslims to each other about their behaviors, and make things easier about moral education and responsibilities of them for helping. Concerning this matter, we see very beautiful examples in the life of The Prophet-May Allah commend and salute him-
