UNAWARENESS
Unawareness,
-gaflet- in Arabic has the meanings of, to leave, not to
consider as important, carelessness, absent-mindless and
neglect.
As a concept “gaflet” is not to perceive
the necessity of something although it is obvious; or a
fault made as a result of not to behave careful or wary
enough.
The word “gaflet”
may be translated as to forget and to err. In addition to
these meanings “gaflet” has also a different
sense.
Oblivion -nisyan- also
means to forget. But it is to abandon something without
being aware of it, “gaflet” is to abandon with
full knowledge. Gaflet has a different meaning.
The concept of “gaflet”
includes the meanings of to be uninformed about a reality
which is evident, to adopt a forgetful attitude against
it or to keep the eyes, ears and understanding shut towards
it.
The concept
of “gaflet” in Quran
The word “gaflet”
is also used as “being uninformed” in the Noble
Quran:
“We
do relate unto thee the most beautiful of stories in that
We reveal to thee this (portion of the) Qur'an: before this
thou too wast among those who knew it not.”
"(It will be said:) "Thou wast
heedless of this; now have We removed thy veil and sharp
is thy sight this Day!". (1)
“Gafil”
-unwary- is the name of people who neglect something with
full knowledge. The Noble Quran describes the ones who do
not comprehend the verses of Allah (c.c), who are estranged
from them, who adopt a forgetful attitude towards the call
to truth and do not to mind it, as “gafil” and
condemns such people.
“Many
are the Jinns and men We have made for Hell: They have hearts
wherewith they understand not eyes wherewith they see not
and ears wherewith they hear not. They are like cattle nay
more misguided: for they are heedless (of warning).”

(1) Chapter, 12/3; Chapter Kaf , 50/22
(2) Chapter A’raf ,7/179.
A heart can comprehend-conceive the Truth, an eye
can see the Truth and the sings indicate it, an ear can
hear the call comes from Allah; all senses are endowed with
these abilities. Those who do not employ them properly,
who are uninformed of Truth or act as if they are uninformed
are “gafil”.
Allah warns believers
by saying “do not be “gafil” “(1).
Being “gafil” - unwary in this sense is a feature
of infidels, disbeliveers and heretics. Only disbeliveers
can not understand the verses of Allah (c.c) and the value
of his call, and only “gafil” - unwary people
can not understand the bad situation which will be faced
by the ones who do not perform the necessity of divine message.
People who are “gafil”
- unwary in this sense will go to Hell. (2) Who neglect
the verses of Allah (c.c) in this world, and are unaware
of the things that will happen in the next world are going
to repent what they did and their forgetful life in this
world, when they will encounter the reality of the next
world. (3)
The Noble Quran frequently
stresses the fact that Allah (c.c) is not unaware of the
acts of believers who perform righteous deeds and the deeds
of others who does wrong things or oppose to Allah (c.c).
(4)
Those who become proud
and turn a way from the verses of Allah (c.c) take the road
of excessiveness; because they suppose the verses as lies
and become unaware of them. (5) As a matter of fact, many
people in the world are unaware of the verses of Allah (c.c)
(6)
People who think the
life as being consisted of this world are unwary ones who
see only the surface of life, do not understand the existence
which was created from absence by Allah (c.c), and the inner
meaning behind the living and they are unaware of the other
world. (7) But the person who believes in the verses comes
from Allah and performs them as required both understand
the inner meaning of this world and they are aware of the
life beyond death.
They are the ones a way from “gaflet”
and are sharp people in the real sense.

(7) Chapter Rum, 30/7
In the creation of souls,
Allah (c.c) had taken out descendants of the sons of Adam
from inside of them and made them witnesses against their
souls. Then he asked them “Am I not your Lord”
and they said “Yes you are our Lord”. The reason
of Allah’s doing this, was to prevent people saying
“Lord, we were uninformed of this, we were unaware
of it” in the next world. (1)
The Noble Quran
said to the Prophet:
“But
warn them of the Day of Distress when the matter will be
determined: for (behold) they are negligent and they do
not believe!”(2)
The Noble Quran warns
people who are absorbed in worldly deeds and who forget
worship, do not carry out the duties as a human being, and
even are engrossed in polytheism, rebellion and wickedness
for the sake of worldly goods, and also warns believers
as follows:
“Closer
and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed
not and they turn away.” (3)
Our Prophet also informs
people that not to be unaware of Allah (c.c), his verses,
to mention His name, and warns that the prayers done in
such unawareness will not be accepted. (4)
